This year we are the official supplier for Sweden’s ÅF Offshore Race organized by KSSS (Royal Swedish Yacht Club), one of the country’s leading sailing clubs.
Between Thursday June 28 and Sunday July 1, more than 300 sailboats will congregate in central Stockholm, just off Skeppsholmen for the contest. This event has evolved over the past few years to become a popular spectacle, which attracts 100,000 people. Visitors join in the fun in the race village and watch the race for free from the city bridges.
This year’s event program offers something for everyone. Family fun includes opportunities to try sailing, laser shooting, segways or jumping on inflatables. Some of the city’s finest restaurants will be offering food and drink and there is a backdrop of live music and stage performances offering pop, soul, funk and blues.
Organized by one of the world’s oldest clubs
On the Sunday, professional teams from northern Europe will compete in the renowned 350km ÅF Offshore Race around Gotland, a race which originated in 1937. Race goers will head out from Strömmen into the archipelago in the Baltic Sea and sail around Sandhamn and Gotland on a course that takes 2-3 days to complete. The classic class route is shorter at 247km.
Established in 1830, race organizer KSSS is the world’s fifth oldest sailing club. With nearly 6,000 members, it has achieved 15 Olympic medals. Several of Sweden’s best elite sailors will take part and show off their Olympic boats to give insight into what is required to compete for Olympic medals in sailing.
